Red Meat has been demonised over the last 6 months, with the World Health Organisation saying that while it remained inconclusive there was some association between the consumption of red meat and colorectal cancer. Many people hit the panic button immediately, but it is important remember that there are many health benefits to eating red meat.
So before you cut out that lovely piece of rump steak, consider this -
- It is loaded with nutrients including vitamin B-12, iron, omega 3 fats and many other vitamins and minerals
- In a massive study from Harvard that looked at data from 20 studies with a total of 1,218,380 individuals, they found no association between unprocessed red meat, cardiovascular disease and diabetes
- The link with cancer and unprocessed red meat largely stem from the way it is prepared, because carcinogens can form when meat is cooked excessively
- Red Meat is loaded with protein - which is imperative to a keeping healthy and balanced diet.
