Did someone say Movember?

As we meet the half way mark of November we couldn’t go without addressing the month long awareness for male cancers that is “Movember”. Between 2008-2010, 9,376 brothers, sons, husbands, fathers and grandfathers in Australia died of prostate cancer alone. We are always seeking to encourage healthier lifestyles and this month is no different. It is one thing to eat your greens and exercise, but are you taking preventative measures to compliment that healthy lifestyle as well?

Today TMS wants to draw focus to specific foods that will not only help you with your weight-loss goals but will also aid in making sure you have many healthy years ahead of you. Check out the list below.


Easily one of the most versatile vegetables, tomatoes also contain lycopene. Lycopene is an antioxidant that helps prevent prostate cancer and tumour growth among men with cancer. Incorporating these into a wrap, salad or juice is easy and makes for a refreshing take on any meal.


Research has shown that men who consume large portions of broccoli on a regular basis are less at risk to develop prostate cancer. Sulforaphane, a phytochemical found in tomatoes is said to target cancerous cells, killing them while leaving normal cells alone.

Pomegranate juice

Is there anything pomegranate juice can’t do? As an antioxidant, this fruit has often been associated to the prevention of chronic diseases. It is said that these antioxidants work on a “seek and destroy” method also exclusively targeting cancerous cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed.


Fish are high in polyunsaturated fats like omega-3’s and omega-6’s, a balance of these is said to prevent both development and progression of prostate cancer. To increase your omega intake eat fish like salmon, herring and trout found in cold waters. Besides, what man can really say no to a beautiful salmon?


Everyone loves a good curry dish. But sorry guys ripping into a big takeaway hot curry after a dozen schooners is not what I am recommending. Instead get yourself into the kitchen and pretend you are Gordon Ramsey by cooking up your own curries using plenty of this amazing spice that also helps with memory loss, blood sugar control and cholesterol management.

While you prepare your next meal, keep your health and these preventative foods in mind. They just might make the difference. This Movember, this year, take steps to get healthy and stay healthy.
